Ordered some outfits to be made!

Katy and I went to her tailor called Dream Girl Tailors....in Satwa. It was a very tiny place, about an 8x10 room where 4 men make clothes on their own counter. It cost us 50 Dirham ($13.75 american) to take a cab to the tailors which is about a 1/2 hour away from home. You enter the shop, they acknowledge you, you grab some tattered pattern books and go through them to see what you want made...they really need new ones, these are from 2003 and earlier. In any case, you pick what patterns you want and he sizees you up, then tells you how much material you'll need (they don't use patterns...they look at the picture and then make it free hand). You then walk 3 blocks away to the Pattada Fabric shop, go through all their material and pick what you like, tell them how much you want and they tell YOU how much you'll really need, LOL, then you pay. I bought 16 1/2 yards of wrinkle free linen for $80.00 or 290 Dirham. The man was very gracious and gave me an extra 3 feet free because I bought the last of a bolt. He made me promise to use the extra 3 feet for a jacket or vest so it wouldn't go to waste. So...we then walked back to Dream Girl Tailors and waited our turn to see the guy we wanted Hamid, to make the clothes. By this time there were about 14 people in this room. When our turn arrived, (we were all breaking out with beads of sweat on our brow and the guys were sweating too, as there isn't any air conditioning in these old buildings), we jumped up and told Hamid what we wanted made, with which material. He took our measurements, scribbled everything down on a torn piece of paper, did he really do that accurately?, and then told us the outfits would be ready the 29th of December. So fast?!? Three tops (1 coral, 1 aqua stripe, 1 brownish reddish print), two pairs of pants (black and beige) and 1 capri pants outfit with a jacket (lavender), all in wrinkle free linen. I wanted to have him make a caftan too but that will come later. I couldn't find any more material I liked. I was only going to get 2 pairs of pants and a top made to see how he did, but I have very little to wear now so I need clothes. Besides, all the malls I've looked for clothes are catering to the younger generation (I can't believe I said that) and I truly don't think I'd want to wear a berka LOL (it's against the law to wear the Emirates traditonal clothing). I'm so excited about this... I can't stand it! I priced clothing in other stores, and it costs the same amount for 2 tops, for what I spent on 6 items and they are tailor made!
So MOM...I'll be wearing something besides jeans! What do you think of that?!?

Well everyone, have a wonderful Christmas. I'll be thinking of you!
