Mall of the Emirate

The attention to detail on the decorating is phenomenal.



Biggest mall in the world. I thought Mall of America in Minnesota was big....nope. It's small compared to this mall. And elaborate too. It's 3 stories tall but it takes up about 15-20 acres. Take a look. The people are very nice and although they speak English, some don't speak enough for us to get what we are looking for....others, it's like we were in the states. Anyway, there is everything you can think of here that we have in the states. The stores are sparcely stalked though....I mean where Macy's has 200 purses, these store only have 90. Strange.
We did find a coffee table and end tables for the livingroom. Most furniture is dark cherrywood and very ornate. Unfortunately I am a light oak, classic lines (Mission style) kind of gal, but we did find the tables in cherrywood, with classic clean lines. It's being delivered Tuesday. So we will have a variety of wood colors in the apartment. Maple dining set, dark cherrywood livingroom set,and then a piece of dark maplewood for the TV stand. Still looking for a bedroom set. Most beds are queen size (mattresses are rock hard) and they don't come bigger or smaller. What you see is what you get. Rarely can you buy pieces, you have to buy the whole set. Very ornate...very. We did find 2 sets we liked that were simple, but they didn't come in King size....darn it! We will keep looking. Hubby just wants to find "something"....but I will keep looking.
One thing I have noticed....the women here are very pretty and I have seen a few really good looking men. The women do wear the Berkas alot with jeans underneath. So they are Westernized somewhat, but not in public.They need to cover their beauty so other men canoot enjoy it only the husbands. They do NOT go out in public alone...they are always accompanied by their men or with other women. They recommend we do the same. Oh and no kissing in the malls or on the streets. They prefer no affection shown at all except a woman holding onto a man's arm.
